Organisation profile

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon works in cooperation with the Institute of Molecular Medicine and the Santa Maria University Hospital, establishing the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre (AIDFM), an innovation concept linking teaching, research and medical practice. Its aim is to increase scientific activity and develop translational research between the Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Medicine, technological transfer, and the development of postgraduate training programs, Master’s, PhD for doctorates for allied health professionals. The Pediatrics Department of Santa Maria University Hospital develop clinical investigation in several pediatric areas.

Operational Capacity

AIDFM is a top academic facility including a CIC-CAML, i.e. a Clinical Research Center which aims to centralize all the human subjects research management activities in one infrastructure dedicated exclusively to research in accordance with ICH-GCP Guidelines and a management team including study coordinators and nursing staff, allowing efficient enrolment. The University Hospital – Hospital de Santa Maria, Centro Hospitalar Universitário Lisboa Norte – has new facilities for the support of coordination and management, including dedicated and exclusive offices for patients, for monitorization /audit and workspaces dedicated to study coordinators at the moment the Center is involved in more than 100 clinical trials and had more than 1500 patients included. In addition to that, Dr. Neves has extensive experience in collaborating with private practices, community centers and schools in the Greater Lisboa Area. Her team (including student and outreach staff for capacity building) will be perfectly suited to set up ImmuHubs in underserved communities.
